Actually, this study was seriously flawed and it was pulled from
governmental websites for this reason. I still wear a helmet, but this BS
study (and others like it by other auto insurance companies) is an effort
to make biking look VERY DANGEROUS so that you will drive your car (and buy
auto insurance) instead.

Helmets are worth wearing, but the actual safety improvement is around 15
percent fewer head injuries with an INCREASE of 11% more neck injuries. Not
quite as overwhelming as the auto insurance company propaganda would have
you believe.

If you torture the statistics, they will confess. Here are some more:

Each year, motor vehicles kill about:

600 bicyclists

4,200 pedestrians

35,000 other motorists

Meantime, bicyclists kill ZERO motorists. So what are motorists crying
about when bikes run a stop sign? Are the motorists in danger?

Big statistic: Over 600,000 die each year from heart disease. I conclude
that cycling without a helmet is MUCH, MUCH, safer than driving to
McDonald's or eating pizza on your couch in front of the TV.

JUST RIDE! (with or without a helmet).
