As I mentioned above, Eagle 2 pads are easily shortened.  Right where the 
last "notch" in the pad surface is you can snip the end off with a decent 
pair of utility scissors. You''ll notice there is metal frame inside the 
pad. File this just a but, maybe like a mm or 2  and you'll clear the stays 
.   

I too had thought of getting road pad holders and all, but since the Eagle 
2's are so easily modified it kinda made it a mute point to buy them.
