DS,

Here are a two images of my hack. Different rear light, however it will 
work with the Riv rear light your talking about. Also I mounted it at a 
lower point on the Seat Stays due to the saddle bag but I could have 
mounted it higher. I purchased flat aluminum bar stock for $6 at my local 
Hardware store and used a bench vise to bend into the "L" bracket you see 
in the pictures.
