One of the things that seems to be taking off around the country lately is a "Tweed Ride" (presumably as a reaction to the carbon-fiber riding, lycra-clad types that tend to ride too fast while displaying appalling manners.)
These events normally have the participants dress up--think 1930's England--and ride slowly from cafe to pub(s) while displaying a gentile attitude and a propensity for spontaneous laughter and genuine camaraderie. Prizes tend to be handled out for various costumes, best mustache (real or otherwise), and other silly things. So with that in mind, my wife and I are organizing a Tweed Ride in our beloved city of Sacramento, which will happen, rain or shine, on November 8th! Here's our url: http://www.sactotweed.blogspot.com/ We'll be starting out at our favorite non-profit, the Sacramento Bike Kitchen, around 10 (doors open at 9, coffee donated by a local roaster), ride around the Capitol for a group photo, ride to East Sacramento via T Street, cross the freeway at 48th, head to One Speed (a great local restaurant--the owner will be riding with us) for breakfast, head over to the levies via F, Elvas, and C streets, through McKinley park at 36th to J Street, head at the Bonn Lair pub for a pint or three, and then ride (safely!) back to the Bike Kitchen for a final hurrah. A rough guess is that we'll be done by 4pm. Hope to see everyone there!
