With Albatross bars, having the bar area free for hands to hold on is nice. 
Traditionally mounted thumbshifters can get in the way of that.

Keven at Riv does thumbshifters under the bar to help with this. Here's a

But I'm not 100% sure this still wouldn't interfere a bit so I still use barend 
shifters or stem shifters. (Stem location is my favorite by the way.)

As for Ergons, I love them on Albatross bars that only have brake levers.
