I'm a BIG fan of the clear coated bikes. Having been a frame builder, I enjoy seeing all the work. The KOM looks awesome!
The steel being media blasted does give it a really wild titanium like finish. Sometimes it takes on a nice aged bronze tint too. For the DIYers out there that have brain cells and patience to spare, you can get a beautiful raw look by chemically stripping the frame. This provided that the original frame was not blasted prior to paint. A strong aircraft grade stripper will make longish, tedious work of it, but it WILL get the paint off. If you get that far, I cannot more highly recommend XIM 900 clearcoat to seal it up with. Its designed for industrial metal applications and is wicked tough. I've used it on a few frames and other outdoor metal application with amazing results. You'll only find it at a well stocked paint place that caters to professionals. It's usually in the $20ish range for the aerosol can, but WELL worth it. Unfortunately I think it's unavailable in California. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
