The latest listings for those bars at Rivbike.com mention that you should use the stronger aluminum version for off-road riding. IMO if your "off-road" involves plonking along in gravel just like you would on pavement, this is not the dirt riding Riv is referring to. I'm sure they're talking about singletrack with bumps and logs and whatnot, at which point an Alba is a poor design anyway. I want flat or Moustache Bars for that kind of stuff.
