With the time change & more riding coming up, I decided to check over my
wife's mini-Lantis. She's easy on equipment so I tend to forget that
eventually everything wears out. I figured it was due for at least a fresh
chain. With the old chain off, I noticed the cranks turned with a distinct
notchiness. Not a good sign. She's never mentioned the bike being hard to
pedal. Turning the cranks slowly by hand I could feel klunk-klunk. There
was no play in the cranks, but clearly the BB was due for changing. Not a
major project but one that was much easier done at home on my schedule
rather than a mid-tour breakdown.

Bottom brackets are pretty easy to forget about, but it's easy to slip the
chain off the inner ring & turn them by hand. Spring is a good time, and
at-home is a good place. My thought for the day.
