Damn. Rider off!

It happens to us all but somehow when it’s the larger-than-life characters it’s
a shock, even though Jobst had been ill for several years following his severe
accident on his last bike ride. I enjoyed many a spirited discussion on
rec.bicycles.tech and in e-mails with him over 15-20 years, although I never
met him in person. rec.bikes hasn’t been the same since Jobst was no longer
able to post (although there are others reasons for that too, such as the slow
death of Usenet).

50 years of bike touring in the Alps, the famous Sunday morning “Jobst rides”
in the Bay Area, rides in the Sierras… Jobst’s bike stories inspired me to go
out and look for a little adventure on my bike, including the best bike
vacation I have ever taken- my own tour of the Alps in 2002. Here’s 20 of his
reports:

Requiescat in pace!
