A disc brake will 'twist' the fork under heavy braking as the braking force is not symmetrical with the centre of the hub. Hence the Jones bike uses a truss fork. I cannot see any advantages for Rivendell in using disc brakes as it would invalidate a well worked and respected design philosophy.
