Am I misunderstanding something? It looks to me like you've got the fenders reversed: Front fender mounted on rear wheel, and vice versa. At least that's the way my 700c Honjos lay out; otherwise, the rear fender isn't long enough to install a fender-mount light.
Granted, undoing all that work and redoing it sounds really unappealing, especially for a non-group rider in a rain-challenged region. It would be hard to chide you for not doing it.
