Another option: Take some old shifter cable housing. Carefully cut off the plastic outside and then peel away a segment of the compression cables that run vertically along the housing. Inside you will find a tiny little plastic tube. That's what the cable runs through. Remove that and slip it over all but the very end of your cables in it between the cable housing stops.
