The Kromer cap which I have is a balloon top, which means that it has
an airspace between the skull and the top of the hat. I don't use it
beneath a helmet, and quite frankly I don't think that it's well
suited to that use. The airspace is nice when cycling, without a
helmet, in warmer weather because it doesn't trap the moisture from
sweating right next to your head. I was comfortable wearing the cap
during the quite hot weather that we experience in Tucson during the
summer so it fits my needs rather well. I expect that the Walz cap
would be more suitable for wear beneath a helmet.
