Goatheads in Redlands?  Whodathunk?  

Seriously, thanks for the intel.  I'm thinking once again about mixed 
surface tires.  Back on the old standby Schwalbes recently & I know they 
aren't intended for dirt.  And $45-$50 for a good tire is reasonable.
