Bike shop tip, use an air compressor and a blow gun fitting.  Shoot the air 
thru the hole you made in end and cover the other end of the handlebar with 
your hand.  Shoot small amount if air in, just enough to cause the grip to 
expand, like a ballon, and slip it on.  Do the same for the other side, 
only this time plus the hold in the grip that is already installed.  Use 
small amounts of air or you will blow the newly installed grip off the bar. 
 So obviously, this trick works to remove the grips too.
