My friend, Greg, had the last two days of the year off from his REI job, so despite damp (but warm for Virginia in Dec.) weather, we decided at the last moment to get one last 80-mile overnighter in on our Sam Hillbornes. We started at Hanover Court House, north of Richmond and headed to Bowling Green (on Rt.301,) just south of Fredericksburg. Though we took our tents, decided on a small cabin because of possible rain that night.
