As far as pain/conflicts I've found that upright bars allow your body to be in 
positions that it is in more Hilary and can compensate for the wrong fit 
easier. With drops you are in a position that your body is less familiar with 
and therefore compensation is more difficult and therefore fit precision is 
more important. Don't assume because you experience some discomfort that it's a 
no-go for you. It's an adjustment period and your body is giving you feedback. 
Listen to it but don't be scared by it.
