Wouldn't the JoeApp accept canti brakes? Then you could use road levers with interrupters.
I really like having the cross levers on my drop bars it's reassuring to know that you can brake in a pinch. But I find that I rarely use the rear brake, so it seems like if the Pauls are too spendy then you could just get the left one and use the road levers when you really need more stopping power. I'm also surprised by how easy it is to brake "on the hoods".
