I love the Compass tires on my Ram and on the tandem, but I have also
gotten many happy miles from three different pairs of Pari-Motos. What we
want from a tire depends lot on the kind of riding we do. I live in a
rural area and mostly ride country roads and extensive bike trails so flats
are not a major concern. When I commuted into Burlington every day I
wanted a carefree tire and rolling resistance was at best a secondary
concern. My Saluki is happy with Fatty Bumpkins and I always ride them
when I'm going into town or other bad roads. They don't have the snap of
the Compass tires but otherwise roll along just fine.

I don't think tires our a good place to economize; they have too much
impact on both safety and enjoyment. I would recommend that a rider think
about what kind of riding he mostly does and what he wants from the tire
and then get the best he can afford. To paraphrase Bontrager. You can get
great performance, great resilience, great price. Choose any two.
