Well, maybe; but on the ride I led today, from Waysons Corner to Chesapeake Beach and back, the final 10 miles or so (Wilson, Jewell, McKendree, Fishers Station, Lower Pindell, Pindell) were almost entirely in shade, and at least half of those miles qualified as fully-blown "tree tunnels" and we didn't get to them until close to noon. The first 18 miles or so were also mostly shaded, but of course it's a lot easier to get shade at 8:30 than when the sun is overhead.
