I've used Zoom Brahma bars on rides up to 100 miles, but I'm not sure if
that is the kind of "upright" you're talking about. It's more of a flat bar
with a built-in extension. I also have "H" bars on the front of my tandem,
which I've also ridden on rides up to 100 miles.

Most of my bikes have drop bars, though.
