If you get off bart at the west oakland station, you can then ride the "bay
trail" around over to the bridge. That portion of the "bay trail" is
interesting, some might say sketchy. But Middle Harbor Shoreline Park is
kinda interesting to check out as well. Take a look at the bottom portion
of http://baytrail.org/get-on-the-trail/map-by-number/oakland-to-albany/

For a few years I would stay in that area every time I went to the bay
area. I like biking over to jack london square to catch the ferry over to
SF.
