You could probably do it on a headlight. Wouldn't be as smooth looking as a tail light. And probably more surgery involved.
Wouldn't be shocked if an E6 or similar would work better than an LED. More a "normal" reflector pattern. There is a Curt Goodrich locally that has a custom done tail light - innards from a Supernova(not positive on that) in an old French housing.
