I don't agree with the massive difference in ride between the two models. Clem is obviously a stouter build than Appaloosa, but they're both long-stay steel frames with a design (by the same designer) weighted towards commuter/tourer and trail-riding duty.
Also, a good bit of the price difference is in the Appa's lugs, which is why Clem exists: Grant wanted to stop giving up sales to other steel TIGed bikes, and was never going to get there with lugs. So he compromised on mostly-not-lugged and created a great frame more people can afford. Bottom line: I owned a 46 Clem, did one day ride on a 52, now own a 51 Appaloosa, and they all ride like Rivendells.
