"Will riding a Rivendell make me self-conscious or overly worrisome?"
he asked.

*************

Two two responses:

1. People DO notice my Rivvy. Not many, and not every time I'm out on
it, but enough that it's noteworthy.

Worst example was the slightly scary-looking, slightly filthy guy at
the bus stop who approached me while I worried about a slow leak. He
came a little too close and lectured a little too knowingly about
Rivendells and my bike in particular. When he reached out to touch the
top tube I backed up, hopped on and sped away, leaving him cursing at
me about being some uptight b***h.

Best example was sitting in a window seat at a cafe with my niece, who
informed me that a man outside was smelling my bike. He was just
inspecting the lugs VERY closely, through pop-bottle glasses. We had a
brief, pleasant talk about Rivendells and he wound up buying one
himself later on.

2. I stopped worrying so much about how attractive my bike might be to
thieves when (a) I got the first big dent in the top tube and (b) I
parked it inside the house. It's a bike. I ride it everywhere and it
makes me happy. I'm guessing your Rivendell will do the same for you.
Ride and enjoy.

Cheers--Beth
