I use a Behmor as well, it's been going for over 5 years at about a pound a week. The cheaper roasters will have less even roasts and you can only roast a little bit at a time. With the Behmor the most I roast is 12 oz of green beans at a time, this nets me about 8 oz roasted coffee weight, almost enough for a week for us. It's not hard and the next roaster up is considerably more expensive (basically a mini version of a professional roaster). I just order stuff from Sweet Marias, you might be able to save a few dollars elsewhere but I like the SM site, all their good info and tutorials and coffee selection. I tend to order a bunch of coffee at once to maximize the shipping fee (20 lbs of coffee shipped for ~$8). I probably average about $6-7/lb of green coffee this way. I can't say my roasts equal those of professional local cafes but I am very happy with the freshness and it's a fun little hobby that makes my garage and house smell good. I also like being able to share coffee I roasted with friends. If the Behmor is not out of your budget I'd recommend not getting a lesser roaster, you could always sell the behmor for not a huge loss if you don't end up liking it.
