Well said, Steve. And that’s one of the benifits of riding single speed for a 
while — it will teach you a lot about gearing and effort and cadance, so that 
when you go back to a geared bike you are a stronger rider who knows your 
preferences for cadance, power, gear spacing, etc. Even if you try single speed 
for two weeks and hate it, it will teach you a LOT.
