I've always loved riding my Sam in the dirt, and regularly 'underbike' my
Sam and my Surly commuter through all manner of trail. Love it.

But a big mixed-terrain ride a few weeks back got me thinking about a more
dirt-capable build. Roman's bike also serves as fodder for the idea:

Really, the lynch pin is high-volume knobbies, and I think the Cazaderos
are the ones to try. Roman thinks they will fit under 559s. I'm thinking
knobbie tires, a short-reach drop bar rather than Noodles, and maybe even
brifters. I'm not manly enough to go 1x, but a hi-lo double might be sweet.

The alternative is a new bike (disk brakes, 650B with room for fatties),
which I really shouldn't do.

Let me know what you have done to off-road your Sam!
