While you're doing that night ride it's worth going up to the White House and the Capitol too.  You'll find a bunch of routes in RWGPS if you search for "moonlight monument" within 10 miles of Alexandria, including several of mine.  This one https://ridewithgps.com/routes/2312 starts at the Renaissance Hotel.

    Hi Rene,

I just meant that DC is pretty much encircled by off-street,
multi-use paths (the Capital Crescent Trail; the Mount Vernon and
the Custis Trails; the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail [although
technically a lot of that is through the city -- it's just along
one of the rivers]), as well as by two that go through the city
(Rock Creek Park Trail, although that one is in such poor
condition in some spots that it's really only fun to ride on the
weekends, when they close off the adjacent Parkway to cars; and
the Metropolitan Branch Trail, which doesn't go for very far
before you have to go onto city streets). The map makes it clear
where those are and which city streets best get to them...

I would include Hains Point in that list, but technically it is a
    street. :-) But since it's a loop around a park, there isn't
    traffic, per se.

And I'll add my +1 for riding around the Mall/the monuments at
    night! They're beautiful.

    Enjoy the city!

        Thanks Liz! I'll do that.

What do you mean by "access to and from the off-street trails"?

            Hi Rene,

The Renaissance is only a few blocks from BicycleSpace,
one of the shops in the city. Stop by when you arrive and
pick up the Washington DC bicycle map, which will give you
some good routes in the city and, more important, access
to and from the off-street trails, of which there are
quite a few. BicycleSpace is at 440 K Street Northwest (K

            between 4th and 5th Streets).

Link to the map here (but much, much easier to have the
            paper map): http://godcgo.com/bike/

            Have a lovely visit!

                Hi all,

I'm going to go to Washington DC for 5 days next week
for a meeting, and was wondering if it's worth
bringing my Bike Friday with me to get some nice early
morning rides. I'll be staying at the Renaissance
Hotel Downtown, and all rides would have to
start/finish at the hotel, although I could get an
Uber to go somewhere and put the bike in the trunk as
                an option as well.

What do the locals recommend? Any nice rides, not in
the middle of traffic that would be worth doing? Any
riding trails in the area worth exploring? Most of my
potential rides would likely be 60-90 minutes long at
                most.

Thanks for any suggestions and recommendations,

                René
