Have a plan (and tell someone), bring enough water and food, start with 
shorter/easier hikes, check the weather, and have fun. I’ve sold hiking/ 
climbing gear for 10 years and it is amazing how complicated you can make 
something that can be as uncomplicated as walking in the woods. If you enjoy it 
you will learn about it organically. 

I would recommend having a comfortable dedicated backpack and putting a first 
aid kit and some emergency food (I use high quality single serve dog food 
samples— then I DEFINITELY won’t eat it unless it’s an actual emergency).
