Not quite, although for a while it sure did look that way.
The only 8 speed cassette whose demise I jpersonally mourned, the 12-32,
is back from SunRace. Sure, it's not built like the old XTR, so in that
sense it's not "top quality," but it's chrome, the ratios are right, and
it works perfectly well. And, all it takes to make it into a very nice
13-32 is to replace the 1st position 12 with a 1st position 13.
Also, IRD has several 8 speed cassettes:

12-28 12/13/14/16/18/20/24/28
