I have a Rohloff on my touring bike (Salsa Marrakesh). I have had the Rohloff since late 2014, and very happy with it for touring. I have done multi week tours with it every year, and occasionally use it for commuting too.
Being able to shift while stopped is a big advantage on a heavily loaded bike. I can also shift quickly to lower gears quickly while riding when needed. I'm a big guy (220+ lbs) and carry heavy loads, and the hub has been trouble free.
