I have a set of Dura Ace 10 speed bar end shifters I've been using a for a few years. I bought them used and they are the variant with a friction mode.
I used to switch to friction mode often on a whim during relaxed rides just to enjoy what used to be a normal thing in my childhood: Smooth, clickless shifts. However, I recently did a handlebar swap (removed and replaced the shifters) and now it seems the rear shifter doesn't want to stay in gear while in friction mode. It's as if there is no longer enough friction to hold the lever in place against the spring tension of the rear derailer even when the D-nut is cranked down as much as possible while in friction mode.
