Nope, I do not recommend trying that maneuver. There's not enough material there in the slotted cable stops to thread a barrel adjuster into.
I think the current batch of inline adjusters that ship with current brifters are extremely slick. If you insist on integrating with the downtube stop, there is a product that has a threaded receptacle that inserts into the slotted stop and the barrel adjuster threads into that.
