I just got my frame, a 61.5/700c and it uses a 27.2 seat post. Based on what you are saying, I would think a call would be in order to Rivendell as I think there was a mix-up. If you have access to a 27.2 post, in your parts stash or from another bike, it would be a useful test to try that!
I think the spec called for a 27.2 and I never saw any mention of that changing between frame sizes.
