I just use a Garmin GPS and have a mount for it on each bike. I upload the rides to Garmin Connect and on the Connect website I can see weekly and monthly distances. If you don't want any of the mapping capabilities they sell a fairly cheap unit that just functions as a bike computer (Garmin Edge 25, I think), or older units often go fairly cheaply on fleabay.
