Leah asked if I’ve ever had a front blowout. Yes, but gladly in an easy to manage situation. I’ve had a tire develop a bulge during a fast descent, probably due to rim heat and that was scary.
The one that is laser etched deep into my lizard brain is a front hub lockup. I had overhauled my front hub (age12) and didn’t do a good enough job locking the locknut. I was riding home from school and the cone started spinning with the wheel tightening the front hub bearings. I went from just riding along to face first airborne in just a couple seconds. I still have a hard time erasing the threat from my memory that a front hub could potentially lock up without warning while I’m riding. I know it’s irrational and that I’m in control of my equipment, but sometimes at 40mph I’ll get a mini-panic-attack flashback to 7th grade. It’s pretty terrible Bill -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
