Ironically, I actually met my wife on a bike ride when I was in my late 30s - and she is not what I would call a bike person. The local rail trail sponsors a Monthly full-moon ride, and she and her sister happened to be there on a whim. I had ridden the same trail for years. It was her first ride in years. Lucky for me the ride sponsor required helmets - she didn't have one - and I happened to have a spare in my car as I had recently upgraded my trusty Bell V1-Pro. We exchanged some pleasantries during the ride, (not names and phone numbers mind you) but I managed to track her down using the sign-in sheet (still no phone number) and a few obscure clues. Once she was convinced I was not a stalker, (that took some convincing!) we did the same ride a week or so later, (she showed up with her sister again) and the rest is history. Makes a great "how we met" story.
Lessons learned: 1. Occasionally ride events that are friendly to non-biking types - especially if there's a full moon. 2. Always carry a spare helmet.
