Jon - the shifting is great! very quick and precise. Sram is great for that.
I'm just using an XT hub (a 10speed one, i dont know the model) with a sunrace 11-50t twelver cassette. i recommend this setup if you are interested in modern shifting. You can get this group (with Sunrace cassette & sans cranks) for $240 on ebay.
