Hi Friends, I'm new to the group and really enjoying the collective wisdom so far. I recently bought a new Appa and used some parts from my current bike for the new frame. Although I'm still recovering financially I'm already thinking about what I can do to get the old bike up and running. It will be great to have it as a mechanical project / tinkerer as well as eventual grocery getter and bike I can leave outside a bar or restaurant without having one eye on the door at all times.
I'll need new bars (flats preferred, although I had drops on it before), bar end shifters, and brake levers. I'm inclined for bars with minimal rise - am considering something like the choco - and price is certainly a consideration. I'd love interesting and affordable recommendations for each. The bike is a 1986 Trek 500 in red and white with gold accents and some beautiful lugs. I'm excited to keep it useful, even though I don't anticipate wanting to ride anything but the Appa anytime soon. I promise gratitude and pictures of both bikes as compensation as soon as I receive them.
