Patrick, What non drop bars are you considering? The Alt-Bars that are out there seem to work well. At least for me. I have a set of early Jones titanium H-Bars with the J bend on my Waterford 1400 mountain bike and a set of Surly Open Bars on the Gary Fisher Gemini tandem mounted on the front. Both bars are comfortable. I have several bikes sporting Wilderness Trail Bikes Dirt Drops that I really like and my Schwinn Voyageur has a Nitto flared drop bar (014) on it.
