I haven't worked with Phils or IRDs, but I have put a wide range of 6 and 7
freewheels on several different 126mm and converted 120 mm hubs.  All have
worked quite well.  I don't see why IRD or Phils would be different.  I
would not hesitate to commit to the upgrade you are planning.
