You don't need a SA spring, you can use one from the hardware store or your junk box. It needs to have a spring rate somewhere within a wide range of acceptable rates. Pull on the spring with both hands and see if it feels somewhere in the range of the tension in a shifter.
It just needs to be a little stronger than the internal spring in the hub. Here's the type of spring Mark Stonich uses for the left-side cable on an S-5, but the same spring should work for you.
