About a dozen years back I had a bike built up with Campagnolo Chorus 11s shifters (pre-2015 shifters, Campagnolo changed their 11s cable pull in 2015) and Shimano 9s XTR RD and Shimano 9s 11-36 cassette. That combination worked fine with no funky cable routing.
