I wish I was going with the pedals to Hawaii!! Leah, I had the same thing 
happen to a One Up pedal and had to open it up to grease it. I found very 
little grease in mine. So, maybe have your LBS add grease to the pedals as 
a precautionary measure? Nothing worse that a mechanical issue many miles 
into a ride.
