Thanks, all.

FWIW, some months ago I asked plaintively on the iBoblist (I think it was
on that list) that something on my Joe Starck fixed Riv Road gofast was
causing light, fugitive squeaks as I rode along; as if malignant sparrows
were following one around and squeaking at odd intervales, but from a
50-yard distance. It happened only sporadically, making diagnosis even
harder. I truly wondered at times if the noise was not caused by adjacent
birds.

Eventually, I peeled back the bearing seals on the front and rear hubs and
on the bb (all Phil) and squeezed grease in with a grease gun; cheap
O’Reilly’s blue grease.

I’m happy to say that for the last ~200 miles I’ve heard no malignant
sparrows, and I conclude that one or more of the bearings was simply too
dry. We’ll see what colder weather brings (I had a front brake/rim
combination that would squeal only when temps dropped below 50 degrees F).
