I’ve never used the Periscopa, but the Dirt Drop was OEM on the MB-1 and
designed for mountain bike use, I think. It’s stout.

More than that, it also gets the bar higher than any other Riv-offered stem
(at least, the 10 cm model does) with its 190 mm quill and upjutter
extension. I used a 10 cm to get Nitto Noodles up nice and high and
comfortable on a 48 cm (c-c) mountain bike with level tt and very low
stack; there was IIRC 3-4 inches of usable quill remaining in the steerer.
I take a 60 c-c road frame in “fistful of post” sizing.

Lastly, I think it looks better than a gooseneck with 12” of quill exposed.

And even more lastly, it’s very well made and quite pretty.

>From the Riv web page:
For maximum bar height and comfort, and especially if your bike is just too
damn small for you, this should solve your discomfort problem. Originally
designed to make drop bars work on too-small, too-longa-top tube mountain
bikes, and was original equipment on the 1987 Bridgestone MB-1.

Our top choice for Albastache or Moustache Handlebars, since they work best
with a tall and short stem.
In 80 or 100mm extensions, both with a 22.2 quill.

The quill length is 190mm

Approximate Dirt Drop rise from min insertion to center of hbar clamp are
as follows:

8cm - 168mm rise
10cm - 178mm rise
