A few years ago,I picked up two pairs of Sport Pursuit padded merino wool boxers:
https://www.sportpursuit.com/catalog/product/view/id/1714794 They have a thin pad, and I wear them under various mtb-style shorts in warmer temps and long pants when it’s cold. They’ve lasted reasonably well (a few non-critical holes have developed). Otherwise, I only wear merino boxer briefs under my civilian garb.
