I managed to score one of Rivendell's new 182.55 plastic weatherproof
saddles and installed it on the Charlie Gallop. Previously it had a very
nice green Brooks B17 Special that I really had no complaints about. But I
wanted to try a saddle with a cutout. Tdhe ability to tolerate wet weather
appealed to me as well. I've got about 30 miles on it an my impressions are
as follows:

   - Its pretty comfy, at least as comfy as the Brooks, and the cutout does
   seem to do it's job.
   - The pelvic bones are cushioned a bit more than the Brooks (duh) and I
think that will pay off, though in years (long) past I routinely did
century rides with the Brooks and my butt was none the worse for wear. But
   that was then.
   - It's a bit wider between the thighs than the Brooks but that feeling
   went away pretty quick.
   - It's pretty easy to slide around on. I wear sweatpants with silk long
johns underneath on these chillier winter rides and there has been no
   bunching up.
   - It may prove to be warmer than the Brooks when summer comes. We'll
see. I can get hot spots.
   - I've got the prescribed 10-15 (actually 12) degrees uptilt and that's
   working well.
   - It doesn't look half bad.

In all I'm satisfied so far and since I transport the bike on the back of
the car the weather resistance is appreciated. And at $50 (plus tax and
shipping) it's pretty affordable.
