So funny you sent this, Doug. Someone on IG sent it to me yesterday and what a BRILLIANT idea. I want the silver because I fear the gold will look like rust. I’m on the “notify when back in stock” list for that silver…

I saw this recently and like the idea of not trying to hide or fret over but instead celebrating bicycle beausage.   Check it out.

Remarkably, it looks like your son's Clem cleaned up nicely; props to the shop and the ruggedness of those Clems. It may be that the paint took a beating, but it sure tells a story. Most of the damage seemed to occur to consumables...tires, chains...etc. A bike that's loved...but not to death

I'll be interested to hear how having a car changes his relationship to his Clem....but I suspect he won't abandon it entirely

On the tangent topic of low-maintenance builds:  my Raleigh Twenty is built with Sturmey Archer hubs: drum brake, dynamo, 5spd internally geared. I have daydreamed about building a Roaduno with these hubs. They are utterly weatherproof and super low maintenance. I find a single speed chain can get away with very sparse lubrication vs a geared chain.

But realistically my Twenty is already perfected in this regard: in addition to this hub set, it's got full coverage fenders, Schwalbe GT365 all-weather tires, and an Albatross bar. It has a Chris King headset and Phil Wood BB, so those are both as sealed from the elements as they can be.  It could live outside and still last for years, but it lives in my building's bike room.
